Downtime & Recovery: What to Expect After Popular Treatments
One of the most common questions we hear at Bloom is: “How much downtime will I need?” Whether you’re planning a treatment for an upcoming event, vacation, or simply fitting it into your weekly schedule, it’s natural to want to know how your skin will look and feel afterward.
The truth is, every treatment has its own recovery process. While some treatments leave you glowing the very same day, others may involve a little redness, swelling, or flaking as your skin works its magic behind the scenes. Knowing what to expect can help you plan ahead and get the most out of your results.
Here’s a guide to the downtime and recovery you can expect from some of our most popular med spa treatments:
Botox & Fillers
Downtime: Minimal to 2-3 days
What to Expect: Botox usually has little to no downtime, though results take 7-14 days to fully develop. Fillers may leave you with mild swelling, redness, or bruising around the injection sites for a few days. Most people feel comfortable resuming normal activities right away, but plan your appointment at least a week before any big event.
Bela MD Facials
Downtime: None
What to Expect: These treatments are all about instant gratification. You’ll leave Bloom with fresh, hydrated, and glowing skin. There’s no recovery time, though we recommend avoiding heavy makeup or intense workouts for the rest of the day to let your skin breathe.
RF Microneedling
Downtime: 24-72 hours of redness
What to Expect: Your skin may look like you’ve had a mild sunburn right after your session. Some patients also experience slight swelling or tightness. By day two or three, your complexion usually returns to normal, and you’ll start noticing a smoother, more radiant glow as collagen production kicks in.
Chemical Peels
Downtime: 3-7 days, depending on peel strength
What to Expect: Light peels typically cause minimal redness and flaking, while medium to deeper peels can lead to visible peeling for several days. It’s essential to avoid picking or peeling your skin and stick to gentle hydration and sun protection while your new, healthy skin emerges.
Laser Treatments (Resurfacing & IPL)
Downtime: A few days to 2 weeks, depending on intensity
What to Expect: Mild laser treatments may leave your skin pink and slightly puffy for a day or two. More aggressive resurfacing can cause redness, flaking, or scabbing that lasts up to two weeks. Sunscreen and gentle skincare are non-negotiable as your skin heals and reveals a brighter, more even tone.
A Few Recovery Tips to Keep in Mind:
- Always follow your provider’s aftercare instructions.
- Hydrate, moisturize, and protect your skin with SPF.
- Avoid picking, peeling, or over-exfoliating treated skin.
- Give your body the rest it needs – healing takes energy!
At Bloom, your care doesn’t stop when the treatment ends. We make sure you leave with everything you need to feel confident during your recovery. Every treatment has its own rhythm, and we’ll guide you through every step so you can enjoy your best skin with peace of mind.
